Types of Roulette Bets

In the thrilling game of roulette, there are many varieties of different roulette bets that players can use to try and win. These roulette best bets are categorized based on the areas of the table where the player decides to place their bets, and this determines the payout size as well as the likelihood of the bet being successful. For example, a person can bet on a single number or even on 12 potentially winning numbers at once, and the payout will be directly proportional to the chances of winning. To make an informed choice, one should first explore the various betting options and payout sizes and weigh the chances of success in the game.

Inside Bets

This type of bet is named because all the positions related to this category are located on the inner side of the marked table. In addition to this characteristic, these best roulette bets stand out with high payouts combined with low chances of winning. There are a total of 6 different types of inside bets in roulette:

  • Straight up 1

In this variation, a player places a bet on a single number, for example, it could be 9 red. The payout ratio for a win is 35:1, making it the most profitable option. To place such a bet, a player needs to select a single number they believe will be a winning one and place one or multiple chips on it.

  • Split 2

Here, a player can bet on two numbers located in adjacent cells on the table, either horizontally or vertically. To bet on 2 numbers simultaneously, one needs to place a chip on the line separating the chosen numbers, which will participate in the upcoming spin. If either of the chosen numbers wins, the payout is 17:1.

  • Street 3

This bet consists of three different numbers placed in a row. To bet on a chosen row, one can place a chip on the outer line of the horizontally or vertically aligned row or place one chip on each number. If one of the numbers wins, the payout is 11:1 of the initial bet.

  • Corner 4

Here, a bet is placed on four numbers forming a square on the roulette table. This option is widely used by casino-goers, who place a chip at the intersection of lines where the numbers meet in the center of the square. In this case, the payout ratio to the initial bet is 8:1.

  • Basket 5

This variation is exclusive to the American version of roulette. Chips are placed on the intersection of lines that separate 0 and 00 from the other numbers or on the lines that serve as the boundary between the outer and inner parts of the table. The payout is 6:1, but the casino's advantage reaches 5.26%, making this option rare.

  • Six Line 6

This bet allows a player to bet on six numbers simultaneously, but to do so, a chip must be placed where the vertical and horizontal lines intersect, dividing two adjacent rows of three numbers each. The payout for this bet is 5:1 of the initial bet if one of the numbers wins.

Inside Bets

Outside Bets

All bets placed in the outer sector of the field are considered outside bets. Unlike the previous category, they offer players high chances of winning, but the payouts will be relatively low. It's important to note that if zero is spun, all outside bets are losing bets and do not refund any of the lost funds. There are five types of such roulette best bets:

  • Column 1

With this option, a player can simultaneously bet on 12 numbers, forming three vertically arranged columns of a dozen numbers each. A chip should be placed in the chosen cell at the bottom of the column. If one of the player's chosen numbers wins, the bet is paid at a ratio of 2:1.

  • Dozen 2

Similar to the previous case, this bet covers 12 numbers, but in this scenario, the numbers are in arithmetic sequence. To place this bet, a chip should be placed in the designated area on the game table marked as "1-12," "13-24," or "25-36." The payout size is 2:1, which is equivalent to half of the bet amount.

  • Red/Black 3

If a player wants to bet on a red or black number, a chip should be placed in the corresponding area on the table. This type of bet is popular among beginners as well as regulars at gambling establishments. Compared to inside bets, the chances of winning are higher, but the payout size is only 1:1, helping to avoid significant losses.

  • High/Low 4

To use this bet, a player selects either "MANQUE," which includes all numbers from 1 to 18, or "PASSE," which encompasses numbers from 19 to 36. The player predicts whether the winning number will be high or low. Payouts for this type of bet in case of a win are at a 1:1 ratio, making it less popular among regular casino patrons.

  • Even/Odd 5

In this type of bet, a player bets on any even or odd value that they believe will appear on the wheel. There are special cells on the field marked as "PAIR" (even) and "IMPAIR" (odd), where chips are placed. Similar to the previous case, the payout size is not substantial, and it is 1:1.

Announced Bets

At tables where you can place the so-called "French bets," there is a feature that represents a kind of "race track" or "racetrack" designed for additional roulette bets. For this purpose, there is a separate oval-shaped section on the game field, resembling a racecourse, where you can find all the numbers present on the roulette wheel. Special types of bets are usually placed on these cells, containing multiple numbers at once. Placing bets on these requires more time from the player, which can prolong the gaming process. To avoid this inconvenience for all players, casinos have introduced verbal or announced bets. To make such a bet and place chips on the chosen numbers, the player needs to state their names in French. As for online casinos, for this type of bet, chips should be placed on the designated section of the special field. There are four main types:

  • Voisins du Zero

Literally translated, this phrase means "neighbors of zero." It covers all the numbers on the wheel situated between the pockets from 22 to 25, including both. This comprises 17 different numbers. This bet type accounts for 46% of possible winning outcomes, making it popular among casino patrons who prefer the classic European version of roulette.

  • Le Tiers du Cylindre

This term in the gambling establishment means "a third of the wheel," and this is because the numbers in this bet cover a third of the entire wheel. It includes 12 consecutive numbers that are located between pockets numbered 33 and 27.

  • Orphelins

Translated, this word means "orphans." This bet consists of 8 numbers; five of them are located to the left of zero, between pockets 1 and 9, while the other three positions are to the right of the green pocket, occupying spaces 17 to 6 on the roulette wheel.

  • Jeu Zero

Translated, this phrase means "zero game," and thus, this bet consists of 7 numbers that are closer to zero than others. The pockets included range from 12 to 0, as well as 32 and 35, which are on the opposite side of the green zero pocket.

  • Neighbours

This option allows a player to bet on five numbers simultaneously. When a player places a bet on a specific number, the bet also extends to the neighboring numbers located above, below, and on the sides of the chosen number. In total, this bet provides a chance to bet on 5 numbers.

Other Types of Roulette Bets

All the best roulette bets listed in this manual above belong to popular types. Roulette is a highly diverse game and offers numerous ways to bet on potentially winning numbers or groups of numbers. Apart from the described variations, there are also less popular bets known to experienced players and regulars of gambling establishments. Among them, two main types stand out:

Snake Bet

This bet gets its name because all the included numbers form a zigzag pattern on the game field. It includes numbers such as 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32, and 34, covering a total of 12 numbers. The bet resembles a regular dozen.

Snake Bets

Finals

In this case, a player can bet on multiple numbers ending with the same digit. For example, this could be 4, as well as 14, 24, and 34. Some establishments allow visitors to place a final bet on all numbers that end with the chosen digit.
